Part-time Project Position Available
The Central Connecticut Bicycle Alliance (CCBA) is looking to hire an individual
who
will work on a part-time basis to complete a specific project within a defined
amount of
time. The salary is $8,000 and the project should be completed within
approximately
nine months.
The project, “Bicycle Parking Facilities in the Capitol Region”, is a pilot
program
designed to promote bicycle use in the Capitol Region. The Capitol Region
Council of
Governments submitted the grant application on behalf of the City of Hartford to
the
Connecticut Department of Transportation. The City has been awarded a federal
grant
which will be administered by the Greater Hartford Transit District. CCBA’s
representative will work with the City in the implementation of the grant
project.
Excerpts from the related documents are attached for further information about
the
project.
In order to fulfill the requirements of the grant received, it is important that
we ensure the
following: The racks will be placed in two groups of locations. The first is on
public
property at high attendance areas like City Hall, public libraries, and public
parking
facilities. The second group (at least two or three) will be placed at
not-for-profits like
the Harriet Beecher Stowe home, the Artists Collective, and the Butler-McCook
house,
which get heavy visitation. The weatherproof bike lockers are intended to be
placed in
the parking lot of Union Station, the train and bus station in Hartford. A group
of
regional transportation planners, city officials, and the CCBA will determine
and agree
upon the location for all racks and lockers.
The individual who represents CCBA:
Should be an avid bicyclist or person who has a
bicycling background; someone who
rides for reasons other than recreation, perhaps someone who uses a bicycle
for
transportation on a regular basis.
Should have knowledge of the diverse “cycling community” (including cyclists
of all
abilities, skills, and interests) in the Hartford area.
Should be extremely familiar with downtown Hartford and where many key
points of
interest are located within the city – would prefer to choose someone
“local”.
Should have excellent written and verbal communication skills and should be
very
proficient using a computer for writing documents and sending email, among
other things.
Should have excellent interpersonal and organizational skills and be
available to work
with the representative from the City of Hartford and others during normal
business hours.
Is very enthusiastic about this project and able to clearly communicate
their enthusiasm
to others they will be working with while truly listening, hearing and
understanding the
requirements of the project.
Must be proactive and motivated throughout the course of this project
Must be able to meet all agreed-upon deadlines and get reports done in an
accurate and
timely manner
