Bike Everywhere Scheduled Events

Launch of the "Bike Everywhere" Program

In 2005, the Central Connecticut Bicycle Alliance organized as a 501(c)3 in order to advocate more effectively for better bicycling and pedestrian facilities.  For more than six years, CCBA and its predecessor program, Bike to Work, have promoted cycling as a viable commuting option. We believe that the time is right to expand the “Bike to Work” concept to a “Bike Everywhere” approach in the Central Connecticut region.

The idea behind Bike Everywhere is simple:  encourage more people to use their bicycles to travel many places where their cars now take them, like shopping, restaurants, visiting friends, and going to the movies, church and wherever else two wheels can take them. We believe that such a program, which will include incentives for area businesses that support the concept, can favorably impact the number of people who view a bicycle as a reasonable alternative to car travel.

Each Bike Everywhere event you participate in will give you a chance to win prizes when you pre-register or provide your information at an event.

So how do you get started?  Check out our Schedule of Bike Everywhere events.  Or just check out the 2 mile challenge http://www.2milechallenge.com/home.html and start running errands around your home by bike.  We think

you're going to find this fun!

Road Construction/Repair

The Floydville Road bridge (built in 1948) in East Granby (between Rt. 10/202 and Rt. 189) will be closed while it is being rebuilt.  The scope of rehabilitation includes abutment reinforcement and a new superstructure having a width of 32 feet curb-to-curb that will allow for bicycle lanes in both directions.   As a result, the bridge will be closed to traffic from June 9, 2008 through November 30, 2008.  A detour route to the north will be established on Routes 10/202 and 189.  You can also use Rt. 315 to the south to get between Rt. 10/202 and Rt.189.
